Illinois State University has partnered with SHIELD Illinois to provide saliva based COVID-19 PCR tests for ISU employees, retirees and their dependents, free of charge. Samples are processed at ISU’s SHIELD laboratory, with results typically provided within 24 hours.
Before testing for the first time, visit portal.shieldillinois.com, select "Sign up for an account" and enter agency code
Complete the information form and follow the instructions for activating your account. Learn how to register dependents.
Select "Schedule, View, or Cancel an Appointment" and then "Schedule an Appointment".
Next, select "ISU Employees" under the "Location" drop-down, then search for and select an appointment time, and finally select "Continue". Note that you cannot schedule an appointment more than 1 week in the future.
After selecting "Confirm" on the next screen, a single-use QR code for the appointment will be displayed. This code will be needed at the testing site, so take a screenshot, print the page, or log into the portal when arriving at the testing site. The code will also be sent by email (check spam/junk folder).
Bring an ISU photo ID and the QR Code to the appointment. Individuals should not eat, drink (including water), chew gum, smoke, or use tobacco products within 60 minutes of providing a saliva sample. Doing any of these things within 60 minutes of providing a sample could produce an inconclusive result and require the individual to re-test.
Provide a saliva sample following the instructions of the testing staff. Watch a video for hints on providing saliva samples.
Test results will be posted in the patient portal after the lab results are complete. This should be 12-24 hours after providing the sample. Notifications of the availability of results will be sent to the email address on file.
